What to Do If Google Suspends Your Business Profile

, ,

A suspended Google Business Profile means your business disappears from Google Maps. Calls stop. It is stressful, but most suspensions get fixed if you follow the right steps and do not panic-edit your profile.

Step 1: Do not create a new profile

Creating a second profile makes things worse. Google sees duplicates as a violation.

Step 2: Find out why

Google sends an email to the profile owner. Log in to your profile and check the status. Common reasons:

  • Keywords added to the business name
  • A virtual office, P.O. box, or coworking address
  • Showing an address when you serve customers at their location
  • Multiple profiles for the same business
  • A sudden change to name, address, or category
  • The business type is not eligible, such as an online-only business
  • Suspicious edits from a third party

Step 3: Fix the issue first

Compare your profile to Google’s Business Profile guidelines. Fix the problem before you appeal:

  • Remove keywords from the name. Use your real business name.
  • Hide your address if you are a service-area business.
  • Remove duplicate profiles.
  • Match your name, address, and phone to your website and signage.

Step 4: Gather proof

Google often asks for evidence your business is real. Prepare:

  • Business license or registration
  • A utility bill or lease with your business name and address
  • Photos of your storefront or signage
  • Photos of your vehicle with your business name
  • A short video walking from the street to your door, if you have a location

Step 5: Submit an appeal

Use the Business Profile appeals tool from your profile or Google’s help center. Upload your evidence. Be clear and honest. Submit one appeal and wait. Response times vary from a few days to several weeks. Do not submit duplicate appeals.

Step 6: Prevent it from happening again

  • Keep your profile info consistent and accurate
  • Limit who has manager access
  • Make big changes one at a time
  • Check your profile each week
